After living for over 2 1/2 years with one of those stupid, effing, dinky little under the counter fridges with a freezer the size of a shoebox, lo and behold:
< ========
So it cost 30% more because of the exchange rate. I saved up for it, damn it. It's mine =;-)
Note the ex-fridge on the right. It's the little gray thing, barely taller than the freezer of the new one, ahem.
Boschy, our new one, was delivered today and is as yet unused. She's all pretty and shiny and new. And very, very TALL. And she's A+ rated, so she won't really be using much more energy than the old one. Crazy.
I don't know what the hell we'll do with ourselves now. It will be a whole new way of thinking. For instance, if we buy a frozen pizza it won't have to be eaten TODAY. It will fit in the freezer! Ah, the shopping trips to bigger stores like Kaufland that lie in wait. (Well, for Bunny. I won't be going anywhere for a while yet until after knee surgery.) But anyway... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Ice cubes in the summer! We can actually use that ice cream maker that someone gave us last year (we couldn't before because the insert thing has to be frozen for 24 hrs beforehand and it took up the whole damned shoebox freezer before)! I can make MSG-free homemade veggie or chicken stock, reduce it and FREEZE it! We can freeze leftovers! I can make big-ass pots of soup and FREEZE the leftovers for lunches!!! We can fit bags of lettuce (whole bags of lettuce!) in our fridge! Plus bottles and packages and all those weird little jars of curry pastes that I love so much.

Can I just say:
HALLELULAH!
Next post: crock pots.

OMG JEALOUS!!! :D
LOL =;-) You don't have one of the little ones, do you? If so, I truly sympathize. I had HAD it with feeling like I was living in a glorified dorm room.
Crazy thing is, it wasn't even that expensive. (I mean, for a fridge.) Media Markt had a pretty good deal (hint for anyone else who wants one!) It's not fancy (no digital displays, no ice maker, no frost-free), just functional. Imagine that!
I moved stuff from the little fridge into the new one last night and entire shelves are completely empty. The poor freezer is running in vain.
This was a big wish of mine for healthier eating. If there's plenty of space to keep leftovers, even freeze them, we'll be comfortable eating smaller portions. Less goes to waste/waist. Plus there can be less trips to grocery stores (time saved) and we can stock up when we find something we really like that's only sold at a store clear across town. And at some point I'll have Tortilla Day. I'll make a whole boatload of low fat whole wheat tortillas and FREEZE them! =:-)
